Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use assistive technology.
Our target
StudentSafe Europe aims for this website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The website has not been independently audited, so we do not claim formal conformance.
What we have done
- Semantic HTML with one main heading per page, a logical heading order, landmarks and a skip link.
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
- Text and interface colours are chosen to meet or exceed AA contrast ratios. Meaning is never carried by colour alone: research results always pair a colour with a symbol and a text label.
- Layouts reflow down to 320 CSS pixels wide and remain usable at 200% and 400% zoom.
- Animation is minimal and switched off when your system asks for reduced motion.
- All content is in the HTML itself; it does not depend on JavaScript to be read.
- Wide tables scroll inside a labelled, keyboard-focusable region rather than widening the page.
How it was tested
Pages are checked with automated accessibility tooling (axe-core) in a real browser at desktop and mobile widths, together with manual keyboard checks. Automated tools find only part of the issues that affect people, and we have not yet tested with a full range of screen readers.
Known limitations
- The country tile map is a visual summary. The same information is available as a list on the country page.
- Quoted legal provisions are reproduced in their original language (for example Croatian), with an English working translation alongside.
- Contribution and correction routes use GitHub, whose accessibility is outside our control.
